Re: William and Evaline McCaleb Mckenzie
In Response To: Re: William and Evaline McCaleb Mckenzie ()
Thanks so much, Denise. I have to make one correction to the index. Leander's last name is also McCaleb. He was a brother or nephew to Evaline. The misspelling of the McCaleb surname in the indices had been a real problem too. I lost Leander after 1880 and finally found him in the 1920 census living in St Louis. Yes, the surname was screwed up then too. Also, other spellings of McKenzie run the gambit from McKennie to Mac Kinsie, etc. After having very little luck in TN, I am looking at the states of GA, SC, and VA. On the 1910 census of Fayette County, PA a gentleman with only the name "McKenzie McKenzie" was living with Bill and Evaline. He said he was born in Va and was about 77 years old. I have thought this could have been Bill's father, John. Regardless, I have not been able to find this person. My grandfather, Escue McKenzie was born in GA around 1892 as was his brother Francis born 1890. This information hasn't helped either since I don't know what county they were born in and the state of GA was not keeping birth records. As I hope you can tell, I am open to any and all suggestions and information. Since I have done the Y DNa testing I have found a 37/37 match with a family from Texas with the Garrett surname. I believe this is a caucasian family from GA or SC. I have not found the 2 surnames together yet in one locale. Thanks again,
