Beats me. Anyone who could answer that is long, long dead. At first I thought he might be listed at the wrong age since he made himself younger on one or more census. Or since he was mulatto, maybe they thought he was white. When his son (my dad) was near death, the doctors thought he was white or hispanic. I'm still waiting to hear from a request I mailed for burial permits to be researched for 1933 in Cook County, IL. Thanks, Ed.
