Also, I looked at the 1920 census for Essie and it states that she is widowed. I also found William as a child and Essie was not listed as a sister. So, I would assume that William was Essie's husband. I take it that you have not found Essie as a child? If not, do you know any of her brothers and sisters? Maybe I can locate her as a child. What about death certificates, have you tried those? I would also check for a marriage record for William and Essie through Florida.
