Re: Ebron Surname from Little Washington, N.C. (FOUND HIM!)

Hi David,

I've done some poking around and believe I've found your Dempsey on the 1880 census (on Ancestry.com) in Goose Nest (Martin Co.) NC!

Supervisor's Dist: 1
Enumeration Dist: 103
Date: 24 June
Page 271

EBORN, Wilson B-M-54 Head NC-NC-NC Farmer

Francis B-F-50 Wife NC-NC-NC Keeps House

*Dempsey B-M-20 Son NC-NC-NC Farm Laborer

Celia B-F-19 Dtr NC-NC-NC Farm Laborer

Lewis B-M-18 Son NC-NC-NC Farm Laborer

Rosetta B-F-14 Dtr NC-NC-NC Farm Laborer

Violet B-F-12 Dtr NC-NC-NC Farm Laborer

Fountain B-F-4 Dtr NC-NC-NC

William B-M-1 GSon NC-NC-NC

You really need to look at this census because there are lots of Eborns on the same page with Wilson and Francis!
--------------------------------------------------
I found this same family on the 1870 census living in Hamilton (Martin Co.) NC:

Page: 463
Date: 11 July

EBORN, Wilson B-M-49 NC Farm Hand

Francis B-F-49 NC Keeps House

Ned B-M-21 NC Farm Hand

Wilson B-M-16 NC Farm Hand

*Demsey B-M-14 NC Farm Hand

Celia B-F-12 NC Farm Hand

Luis B-M-9 NC At Home

Rosetta B-F-2 NC At Home

Relia ? B-F-1 NC At Home

---------------------------------------------------------

Eborn is an usual surname so I'm betting your family took the owner's name. I looked at the 1860 slave schedule census and the only slave owners with the last name of Eborn lived in the adjacent counties of Beaufort and Pitt.

If I can help further please let me know.
Debbie
