PA, Washington County:Looking for descendents of Ralph Smith and Elizabeth (Shively or Shiveley) Hazelbaker
Background info: Elizabeth Shively is my GGGGG Grandmother. She first married my GGGGG Grandfather, Peter Hasselbacher/Hazelbaker who was a German Hessian fighting for the British during the Revolutionary war. Peter did not return to Germany. Peter and Elizabeth married around 1782 and had 6 sons. John, Peter (died 6 weeks after his father), Daniel, George, Abraham, & Jacob. Peter died in 1800. Elizabeth married again to Ralph Smith who was a slave own by Joseph Dorsey until the age of 28. Ralph is described as a "Black male" born abt. 1773 and this information can be found at http://www.afrolumens.org/ in the Washington Co. Slave data. Ralph had a sister named Hannah Smith but I have been unable to find any information on her.
History states that Ralph and Elizabeth had 4 children together. Henry, Joseph, James, & Louisa. This source for James Smith http://www.chartiers.com/beers-project/articles/smith-743.html will give more history on this family although the information on Elizabeth's children by Peter does not include John, Peter (deceased), or George. Also, my Hazelbaker family was not aware of the daughter "Polly" until recently and next to nothing is known about her.
There are some oddities in the family history that I am researching. Elizabeth's date of birth is 1758 which makes her 15 years older than Ralph. Amazingly she would have been about 46-47 years old when she had her first son by Ralph. Son, Henry was probably born abt.1805. Elizabeth's son Daniel Hazelbaker (1786-?) is also recorded as having a son named Henry Hazelbaker born in 1805 and nothing is know of his mother.
I believe Ralph & Elizabeth's son Henry (who is only recorded as being deceased) may have married and had a daughter (name unknown) who married a man named Joseph Marsh. Joseph Marsh & unknown Smith had a daughter named Matilda S. Marsh.
Any information would be appreciated.
