In Response To: Glee (La Fonda Smith)

La Fonda,

I found a Daniel (b. 1825, VA) and an Eva (b. 1820, VA) on the 1870 census for Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. Listed with them is a daughter named Ellen Glee (b. 1856, AR). Their other five children were born in Virginia.

1870 - Ouachita, Louisiana
GLEE
Daniel, VA, 45, 1825
Eva, VA, 50, 1820
Henry, VA, 22
Arabella, VA, 22
James Wash, VA, 17
Richard, VA, 15
Nancy, VA, 16
Ellen, AR, 14

(Note: Sometime between 1854 and 1856 this family moved from VA to AR. Look for slave sales in VA around that time.)

Could this be your family?

One of Daniel and Eva's daughters, Nancy, married Edman (Edmond?) Maxwell. Nancy Maxwell died in Bosco, Ouachita, Louisiana on September 20, 1926.

I found Daniel and Eve Glee living in the 4th Ward, Ouachita, Louisiana on the 1880 census.
