Since they were former slaves, they won't be in any census prior to 1870, and he appeared in the Census from 1870 to 1920 in Granville Co., NC. I don't see a death certificate for him in NC, although since this was after 1913, there should have been one if he died in that State, so it's possible he died elsewhere. His 2nd wife who he married about 1885 according to their census records, was ALICE MORTON, daughter of WILLIAM & SUSAN MORTON, also former slaves in Granville Co.
