Thanks for the information. I was aware of 1830 blacks that were free persons but it was confusing to verify this information due to the name misspellings and same or similar names. The book titled "Black Genesis" by Dr. James Rose also list free Blacks, Indians and mixed races some of which were free. Several years ago, one of the white Grantham family members sent me a bunch of census records indicating the freeing of their slaves or servants. I have also met and talked with another white descendant from the same area.
