Bell - Christopher genealogy
In Response To: William "Big Bill" Bell (Judy Casey)
Judy,
Anna Belle was her great-grandmother and her descendants live in Detroit, MI. So far, I've traced the family through the 1870 to 1940 census. I was also able to find John Nathan (it seems he went by "Nathan") in a 1866 state census. I made the connection to the William Christopher family, and was able to match up Nathan's wife and children on the 1860 and 1850 slave censuses as well as trace William's family. William may have freed Nathan, but his wife and children still show as property of William as late as 1860. In the 1840 census, I found William in Coweta County with his first wife and their first two children. At that time, William owned one slave: a female aged 10-23 years. Marinda would have been about 13 at the time. She indicates on later census records that she was born in South Carolina.
Do you know where to direct me, or if there is someone I can contact for more information? Thanks, Cathy Dekker Messages In This Thread
