Thanks Denise. I posted a query quite some time ago on the Slave forum but I think it was lost in the upgrade. Did receive a few replies from some wonderful people offering suggestions but thought I would try again. Yes, I have found Joseph in the Canadian 1861,71 & 81 census. I know he died after 1886 as he was the informant on his wife's death notice. The story written about him says that he escaped in the late 1840's but I can't find him before 1861 where he appears with wife, Mary & one year old son.

I have read escaped slave notices & other online information until my eyes can no longer focus . I've sent emails to KY & TN people researching variations of the surname & recently received info on mulatto 'Rinkle' & "Rinckle's" in LA and VA.

There is a Joseph and family in the 1880 census, born 1833 & living in LA. Interesting enough, this is the same or close to the same year that my GG Grandfather was born. Not him,as he was in Canada, but maybe related. Another lead is the will of John Wrinkle from Natchitoches, LA (online) dated 1829. There are no other records for this family online (that I can find). The names of some of the slaves listed are the same names that Joseph bestowed on some his children. Coincidence?

I'll keep plugging away & certainly appreciate any assistance.
