It could also have been spelled RINKLE: African-Americans|in the 1870 U.S. Federal Census
Under this spelling there is a connection to KY. You might want to see what listings there are in KY for white families with this surname - I only see Van Wrinkle in Madison county in 1850 but didn't check variations. Also you should do a google search for escaped slave notices in KY. I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions from other Afrigeneas volunteers. Denise
