Looking for information on my ancestors: The Browns of Bladen County, NC
I am in search of my family’s roots and history. My Name is Linda Brown. I reside in Crestview, Florida. My great grandfather (James A. Brown) came from Carvers Creek/Council, North Carolina.

His military records list that he first lived on the Andres/Andrews Plantation and later went to the Brown Plantation.
Very little is known about James (Andres/Andrews) Brown (he was married to Sophia) other than his Mother’s name was Chloe Flowers, this information came from his death certificate.

The only known names of James children were Amanda, Emma, Silva, Nathan and Betty. Nathan is my grandfather and Betty is the only one of Nathan’s sibling we knew and her married name was Betty McPhil.

To the best of my knowledge they left NC following the turpentine industry. One address on Ancestry.Com places James Brown in Lothair, Ga. (Census of 1910).
James was born in 1840 and died at age 98 in Flowersview, Florida (near Florala, Al and Paxton, FL).
