Yes, I have seen the will; in fact, it is item 14 that stood out to me. It appears as though he did not want slave families seperated. I did see the name Sarah listed but I don't know if it is my Sarah. I have contacted the special documents departmenet at UVA and they are going to send some photocopies to me. I am really looking for manumission records or proof that they received some kind of financial help. I don't see how they could have put at least three sons through college AND owned their own home free and clear by 1900. It seems like it would have taken a good bit of money to accomplish those things as former slaves in Virginia. I just wish I could get up there myself to go through some of the Sam Pannill Documents they have at UVA.
