Are yo connected to the Alabama, Georgia or North Carolina Barges? I'm looking for descendants of Jeff Barge of Butler and Wilcox counties. I descend from the Barge family that remained in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. The white descendants of this line spread to the lower south and of course, their slaves with them.

I'm trying to determine if there are any blood connections amongst the African American lines that can be traced. The white progenitor of the southern family was Lewis Barge who served in the American Revolution. When he died, he owned 19 slaves, many of whom were distributed to his wife and children. Some of those slaves remained in NC, while others migrated further south.

I imagine there are other branches of Barge families that stem from those who lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. If they are connected, I would be interested in learning about them.
