Help figuring out my Gr-Grandpa's Name
Hi! My grandmother's (Martha McKinnies 1892 GA) father, Kine McKinnies abt 1861) is in the 1900 Census for Liberty County, GA with his wife Anna and children. This Census spells my great grandfather's name K-i-n-e. I have never found any other records for him. I think it's because of how his name was spelled. The 1930 Census for Long County, Rye Patch, GA, his son, Moses McKinnies says Kine was born in North Carolina. Although Kine says he was born in GA, I believe Moses when he says his father was born in NC.
I think the 1900 Census was trying to spell Kenny phonetically and put Kine (the "i" being in there as a short vowel sound and the "e" as a long vowel sound. The information that I know about my great grandfather from the Census lines up with this 1880 Census. Anna says, in 1900, that she gave birth to to 7 children and 4 are living. The two children in 1800 are not there in 1900. Moses was not living with his parents so he is not in the 1900 Census but his other three siblings are with Kine and Anna. That makes 4 living children for Anna.
I need help seeing if I am on the right track. There are differences in Kine's age in the two Census records. He's born in 1854 in the 1880 Census; but born in 1861 in the 1900 Census. The other problem is I don't know where Moses lived during the 1900 Census. So I still see some issues that I am not sure how to research. I live in Liberty County, GA but I don't know what kind of records to search for when looking for Kine or Moses. I have found much between Family Search and Ancestry. Can someone help me figure this out or at least suggest some ways to find more about Kine. Thank you so much for listening and for any assistance that is available.
