Re: Grandfather Ben SADLER ?
In Response To: Re: Grandfather Ben SADLER ? ()
I thank you so much for the information thus far. We are so desperate to find him in his early years and know he has got to be there somewhere. Although it didn't turn out to be him in White Castle we have heard that his mother was from somewhere across "the river" meaning the area of White Castle, etc.
The family story is that his mother had him but for some reason could not keep him and brought him to relatives (The Pool, Poole or Turner) family in East Feliciana parish. They wouldn't allow her to stay with them after having the baby again supposedly because the non whites in the area thought she was white staying with a black family and it stirred trouble.
It is said he never knew his Mom or Dad and we have no idea how the Pool (Poole) or Turner family played a part in his early life and of course non of them are alive today to give us any information.
I am wondering if there were clues that she might have left us regarding who he is perhaps by naming him Ben "meaning Son" of Sadler, and if there were White families in the area of White Castle, Iberville or East Feliciana with the last name Sadler. For such a long time we were the only Black family in East Baton Rouge or East Feliciana with that name as I grew up in the 50's. Not sure either about Iberville Parish or White Castle, Louisiana.
Hopefully this little added information can widen his search and we can find him.
