Walker, Mumford and Patience (Southern Virginia)
I recently got confirmation for my great grandmother's parents. Hooray they are officially Mumford and Patience Walker. This was confirmed through their daughter's two different marriage certificates. Normally this would bring great joy into my life until... I found two Mumford and Patience Walkers within stone's throw from one and other.
The first pair are living in Boydton Township Mecklenburg County, Virginia (p. 52) in 1870 age 29 and 26, with three children all boys. I am able to trace them through 1880 and one of the boys through 1910.
The second pair are living in Blendon Township Nottoway County, Virginia (one county over) (stamp #151 page 47) ages 25 and 24. They also continue to be traceable for a number of decades. They have three children as well mostly girls.
Any thoughts on how I can determine which set my Susie Walker belongs to? Both women go on to state they have a number of other children living but not always living with them on the census. To my knowledge, Susie never appears on the census until she is married and living in Norfolk.
My gut tells me to stick with the family that is directly in her hometown but situations like this make me a tad nervous when it comes to genealogy.
