Will BUFORD & Magnolia OWENS MS
My name is Prestyne Walker. I am in a process of creating a geneaolgy of both my maternal grandfather Will Buford and my maternal grandmother Magnolia Owens. I have found that they both possibly have ties to land based on land grants signed by Martin Van Buren. Will Buford's was signed in 1838. (He was born in Attala County.) and Magnolia Owens was dated 1841.(She was born Clay County.)
i found these through my initial start of the research at ancestry.com. It seems as though my grandmother is a descendent of Thomas T. Owens; one of the first settlers of the Mississippi Territory an area from Louisiana across to Florida.
For my grandmother; there several other surnames that are part of this situation. They are Gibson, Shetlar and Shelton.
These are the instruments that I have used to find the info that I have used: U.S. General land Office Records 1796-1907. Also; excerpts from a book called "First Settlers of the Mississippi Territory:(grants taken from the American States Papers, class viii; public lands; volume 1.
I feel some lucky to have found you as my life has come full circle. i married a man from Senegal and have a beautiful daughter who has not only her African attributes; but some of the same attributes that my grandmother and her side of the family
Thank you and anyone else who can offer any assistance.
