Re: Tazwell Baskerville
In Response To: Re: Tazwell Baskerville ()

If you don't mind I am going to add a couple of other things you might consider looking at :)

Earlier I wrote about the Mecklenburg County Death Register 1853 to 1896, you should also look at the Birth and Marriage Registers. Like the Death Register, VA began keeping birth records in 1853 and continued until 1896 when it was discontinued until 1912 on a State level. Mecklenburg birth records microfilm (at LVA) Reel 25 cover 1853 to 1861..Reel 26 covers years 1862 - 1896..missing years 1863 and 1869.

For the 1853 to 1865 time frame Slave Births were also recorded. In 2007 a 5 volume set of books entitled Virginia Slave Births Index was published. This index is based on WPA project. The index is an abstract of some of the info that appears in the Register, it includes names of Informant (in case of slave births it is usually the name of the Slave Owner); name of child (this is sometimes blank); Name of Mother (this is sometimes blank); Date of Birth (not always month, day, but does list year) and Place of Birth...County.
In the actual Registers fathers names are rarely if ever given.

I took a look at the Baskerville entries, there are 3 that might be of interest:

Informant: Baskerville, Wm;
Child: (female) no name
Mother: AUGUSTA;
Date of Birth: May 1856
Place of Birth: Mecklenburg

Informant: Baskerville, Wm H.
Child: FLOYD
Mother: AUGUSTA
Date of Birth: July 1857
Place of Birth: Mecklenburg

Informant: Baskerville, Wm H.
Child: Montgomery
Mother: AUGUSTA
Date of Birth: July 1859
Place of Birth: Mecklenburg
