In Response To: Henry Winstead - Born NC Lived PA & NY ()
I've found that in NC, Henry was very often a middle name. Sometimes a person would be listed with that name, then the next census by their first name, most often it was something like John Henry, William Henry, James Henry, and then there are the times when they may only be listed in a census with just an initial. You might want to try locating other family members and see if someone his age might be living with, or very near them, that's how I've located people with similar circumstances. Also, check the NC MARRIAGES 1759-1979 database on FamilySearch for any possible marriage records for when he was in NC, and also, try doing a search for him in their main search page, using Person County as the location first, and see what kinds of Census records come up for him. The thing I like about FS is that Results will include anyone with initials for the names you're searching for, something that Ancestry won't do, I've had a lot of luck in both Census & Marriage records, in particular, when the do that because often someone unexpectly weren't using their full names.
