Hewitt families Coosa & Chilton AL
Dear Afrigeneas Family
I have been researching for the last 8-10 years. The main focus of my research has been the Caffee, Burt, Hall, Campbell and Hewett families from Coosa county and Chilton county, Alabama. Another focus has been the Fitchue/Fitzhue, Fitzhugh family from Missouri and Lawrence & Topeka Kansas.
After seeing my name on ancestry.com, a reporter from Durango Colorado called me for information on a Fitchue cousin who lived there in 1883. She was writing an article about him and it was published on March 25, 2007 in the Durango Herald.
I've also had luck in researching a portion of the Caffee line that moved to Fairmont, West Virginia to work in the coal mines.
Since putting together the information, I have discovered some relatives in North Carolina who are listed in the 1850 & 1860 census...so I'm 'assuming' (I know that's a bad word in genealogy) they were FPOC. They moved into Ohio and Michigan. The surnames are: Clark, Conner and Homes of Green County, North Carolina.
Just recently, I received some generic information on the Hewitt Stock and Slave Company of West Virginia that was owned by Col. Joe Hewitt. Since this is one of the suranmes on my list, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it before or if anyone has any information about him or the company.
Thanks and Good Luck on your Journey
