I am a Portee/Grooms descendant from Columbia, SC. My g.g. grandfather was Rev. Elijah Portee and his wife, my g.g. grandmother was Dorcas Grooms Portee. Her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth (Wilson?) Grooms. Thomas Parents were Thomas and (Agnes?) Grooms. I have not been able to find the parents or siblings of Elijah Portee. All of these individuals were listed as mulatto and they were FPC (Free Persons of Color). There were many other Portee's in the area, but because I don't have the information for Elijah, I am unable to find the connection between us and other Portee's. Elijah and Dorcas' children are as follows:

Jesse
Durey (Dewey). Elijah also had children with his sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Lizze) Grooms. To my knowledge, they were:

Annie Grooms
Sanko Grooms
Jesse Grooms

I've located the decendants of Ada Portee (Grooms), but they don't know much about the Portee side, and I'm a descendant of Percee, and my family doesn't know about the Portee's either. I spoken to one of Annie Grooms (Jacobs) grandson's and he gave me a lot of info, but he didn't have any more info than me for the Portee's. One of Annie's daughter is still living in New York, but I haven't been able to locate her because my cousin, Annie's grandson, passed away last summer. Any help would be appreciated.
