First thing you have to remember is that spelling doesn't count. Those enumerators write down what they hear and in the process spell what they hear. Sometimes they add or take away one or two letters.

If you look at the 1910 census you will see that Nancy had 11 children with 8 living. Perhaps your answer lies there.
