Just recently found very important information regarding a portion of this line. According to a distant cousin, the story is as below:

Joseph M. Suares is the great grand son of Hasting Newton of South Carolina. Joseph's mother was Edith Newton before she married Joseph W. Saures. Edith mother was Clara Singfield, once married to Hasting Newton in 1900, before she married Robert Bennet. This is their history: Hasting was the son of Ulmer Newton born a free person of color in South Carolina in 1843. The whole family came from free mulatto's at that time. If any one has any additional information on the Singfield or the Suares (Saures, Sauress, Sawres) line, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
