My father, Fleetwood Cobb, was born in Springer, OK in 1885. He, his father Robert, and his brothers were all enrolled by the Dawes Commission as Chickasaw freedmen. The family name was eroneously spelled "Colb" on the Dawes records. My father's mother was Serena Cohee, brother of the well-known freedmen advocate Charles Cohee, jr. My father married my mother, Mamie Wilson, a school teacher in Berwyn, OK in 1917. With their three small daughters they moved to California in 1923. I was born in San Diego in 1932.
