Re: Seeking CLAY in KY & Piqua OH
In Response To: Re: Seeking CLAY in KY & Piqua OH ()
You're more than welcome for any help I may have been to this point. I'm still located in the Miami Valley area, about 25-30 miles from Piqua. I get back there and to Troy, Ohio frequently to visit relatives and also for some occasional research.
You state in your original posting that both June Clay & his wife, Bessie, were from KY, possibly Lexington. A look at census records for them in Piqua (1920-1930) gives conflicting information for the birthplace of June Clay and sons,Robert & William, between Ohio & KY. Bessie's birth location is listed as KY on both. My thoughts are ...could June be a nickname? could he have been born in the Piqua area? and is he a descendant of those former Randolph slaves who took the surname of Clay when they arrived in Piqua in 1846? Another thought .... Betty, the wife of William (Bill), her surname may have been Hill and she was from Troy, Ohio. The Hill's of Troy were another descendant family in the group of former Randolph slaves. There were approximately 380-385 individuals which included many family groupings among the former Randolph slaves.
Well, let me stop here for fear of taking away your "thrill of discovery"
Best Wishes and keep in touch,
