Re: Seeking CLAY in KY & Piqua OH
In Response To: Seeking CLAY in KY & Piqua OH ()

Hello Jennifer,

WOW!!!!!!!! I grew up in Piqua, Ohio and the Clay family, Miss Bessie, Robert "Bob" & William "Bill" Clay lived around the corner from me on Sycamore St. when I was a youngster. I lived on Roosevelt Ave. I knew them very well!!!!

If you look on and the 1940 census records, they are FREE at this time. Search.... last name Clay, State Ohio, County Miami & Race Negro you will find Miss Bessie & Bob in Piqua, Ohio on Sycamore St.... Bill, wife Betty and children are living 8 miles down the road in Troy, Ohio at this time. I think Betty's maiden name may have been LEE.

On the 1940 census record for Miss Bessie & Bob ..... image 3 of 34 for that ED, go back 1 page to 2 of 34 and you'll find me, Arthur L. Thomas.

If you should care to correspond and compare notes please feel free to contact by email. I'm sure I have more information about this family to share with you.

And welcome to the Genealogy & AfriGeneas

Art Thomas

"I am married to a Clay and have just begun searching his lineage. The only historical information I am certain of is as follows:

My husband's great-grandfather was June Clay who was married to Bessie Clay (maiden name unknown). They were originally from Lexington, KY and had 2 sons: William and Robert [Bob] Clay. Bessie Clay left Lexington, moving to Piqua, OH with her sons William and Robert [Bob](unknown if June Clay migrated with the family as well).

William Clay married to Betty (maiden name unknown) produced 3 children with my husband being a grandchild of theirs."
