Found my mulatto great great grandmother, Anna Jemkins with lance children: Julia, Elizabeth, Archibald, St John and Theodore, in 1870 census in Charleston,sc. She was head of household,no lance father mentioned. I took the name of the oldest boy, Archibald and found civil war info for a confederate in S.C. His father was plantation owner,Col. Francis Lance. The wife of Francis is Elizabeth St. John according to cilvil war record. I found Francis in the census living in the same Ward 4 as these children. Is there someone that might be able to find out more? Interesting that the children have the names of these people.
