I found the marriage date in an Index to St. James Parish Marriages. It may also be in the Diocese Records, but this was the Courthouse record - which may or may not carry the name(s) of the parent(s).
The Death date came from the Louisiana Death Index. It's available at the NOPL and in Baton Rouge I know. Perhaps it is also available at other larger libraries. The microfilm is available at my local library, however Ancestry also has the Statewide Death index online from 1900-1949 (fee).
As you have already realized, Raphael could also be spelled Rifel, Riffle, Rieffel, Raphel, Rafel, Rafael... etc. [Ra-fah-elle or Rih-felle). It all depended upon WHO was doing the pronouncing and who was doing the writing at Census time.
