Re: RICKMAN of NC Rockingham Cnty?
In Response To: RICKMAN of NC Rockingham Cnty? ()
Also see my response to your posting on the FPOC Forum concerning John & Mariah (Goings) Rickman. From the 1850 census listed on the same page just below the John Rickman entry are three (3) FPOC Goings families. They are listed as mulattoes. With no entry in the race/color column for the John Rickman entry, it can be 'assumed' they were enumerated as non-persons of color.
Do you have this information from the 1850 Census for Rockingham Co., NC? Could Mazzie be your Mariah Goings? And what could be the connection to Fanny Bridges?
Goings, indexed as Goney in 1840 & Going in 1830 are listed as FPOC in Rockingham Co., NC.
In the 1830 census for Patrick Co., VA there is an FPOC, Thomas Rickman, with 11 persons in his household. there is one (1) male child under the age of 10. Could this be your John Rickman born ca 1826?
Hope this helps,
