Ordinarily I would save the pleasure of researching for myself, but there is a deadline looming. Does anyone out there know the story of Leonidas Scott? Born MD, abt 1830. Married Martha Ann Thomas May 29, 1851, in Washington, DC. Died 1899 in Washington, DC. Owned significant property in the Capitol Hill area of DC by 1859. He was a carpenter, a house builder and businessman. Suffered financial reversals in the panic of 1873. He built a house that sheltered African American families and single working men and women into the 1920's. I have checked NARA property records and done a fast look at local and web resources, including Ancestry's census.
