Re: BRAMES from Mississippi
In Response To: Re: BRAMES from Mississippi ()
I did some checking. My Beckley cousins appear to be direct descendants of Jacob Brame (Braham), listed in the 1870 Pontotoc County census. His age is 61, and in his house were Caroline (40) and several children. Who appears to be Jacob's son, Elias Brame, is next door. Elias's son, Richard, and then Richard's son, Robert Brame, are my cousins' ancestors.
I also saw a Major Brame as the son of John & Martha Brame in 1880. His age matches your Major, and there's a daughter named Betsy. I can not even tell you the numerous times I've come across people that did not quite fit the names/ages of the people I was looking for, and they turned out to be the correct family. Also, I never try to match up parents' birthplaces, because it most cases, different birthplaces would be reported in various censuses.
I wonder if John Brame is a son of Jacob Brame?
