I am also a descendant of the Chestang to Chastang clan.From what I know,my mother is linked by the union of John Pierre Chestang and his commonlaw wife,who was a Choctaw Indian. He came to this region as a french spy for Napoleon.Settled here,ran a whisky mill,and was also a doctor. He had 2 or 3 brothers that ventured off in their own directions. I do know that there are quite a few of us roaming the land who are of this clan.Also,there is a German part by the name of Henenberg or Hendenberg.I am not sure which is correct.My grandmother's lastname was Gratford.Although,I have been told that because my line is African American,the diverse spellings of the name was created by different ones of the clan to seperate themselves from that knowledge. I have always been very interested and intrigued by discovering my heritage.Also,I have children of my own,and want them to know,and be proud of this part of their heritage also.
