[Entertainment] In My old NEIGHBORHOOD
I was at work today talking with some of the people my age and we started reminicing about our old neighborhoods and watermelon. In my 'hood' we had a man in a truck come down the street singing out " Watermellon--Watermellon Man." You knew by the sound of his voice and the way he sang out those words, just who it was today and if that particular truck was the one you were going to get a good 'haggling' price. The housewives of the hood had to stretch those pennies. I was all done with good humor, but by the time the women in my 'hood' got thru with the "Watermellon Man", or the vegetable Man, or anybody else who came thru our neighborhood with fresh vegetables he knew we had better get the best 1st. Usually these grocery stores on wheels would end up letting the 'ladies in the hood set the price' just to hurry up and get to the next stop.I went to Africa and was in the market place and saw just about the same thing. Only the women were the venders, sitting waiting for the next customer. I didn't even bother to try to argue the price down. Just paid what they asked. But when I came to those men vendors- they didn't have nothing coming. I GOT MY PRICE. I learned from my neighborhood 'Mama's. Now can anybody tell us something about their old 'hood'. Maybe something funny or unique. I know there's lots of good stories out there. This is a new board, with new rules. I hope I've helped it get started fresh.
