I had this discussion on another list. She like the General are officers of the United States government or the Constitution. She took an oath of office.

I think she had the right ask to be called by her title which is without sexist overtones. "Ma'am" is a perfectly legit just as Sir is but she is a senator. She didn't ask to be called something like king or queen. In other words, she didn't make an outlandish request. Her name did appear on my ballot under the category of U.S. Senator.
