Re: Nick Name vs Given Name ?
In Response To: Re: Nick Name vs Given Name ? ()

Hi,

I know of the aggravation of which you speack. Nicknames are often for a distinct feature of a person, someone or thing they may resemble to another, or their behavior, hobby, or something that they like or enjoy a great deal. We have several Bucks on both sides. Only two of their names is a shorten form, i.e. Buchanan (his mother's maiden name was his first name), Buckner, Buckman. Also, sometimes the pronouncation of a name lead to a nickname or "renaming". For years everyone called a family member Dory when her name was Gloria. One or two small children in the family could not pronounced Gloria, and some grown-ups would say "Glory" then another small child heard Dory. After a while Dory caught on and stuck.
