Your post brings up a question. What is meant by genealogy purposes?
I ask because of a recent change here in Ohio (Jan 2004). Prior to Jan 2004 I could get a DC copy from any Health District in the State of Ohio for anywhere from .25 to 1.00 for 'genealogy purposes'. The copy was stamped (for genealogy purposes only). The dates for these copies was from 1907 to the present.
Starting in January, we now can only get a 'certified' copy of these DC's from 1907 and that cost is now $15.00. I'm not sure if the recent security measures and privacy concerns are the reason for this change. My suspicion is that with Genealogy being one of the fastest growing pastimes in the country this is a money-grabbing move by State. Of course I could be wrong
Death Certificates from 1865 to 1907 in Ohio are housed in the County Probate Court where the death took place, or was filed. Copies for genealogy purposes vary in costs from county to county, but most are
