Yes, that is true. Just learned that myself recently. They sent back my application in which I tried to get my great-grandfather's brother's certificate. He died in 1963 at around 90-something. They said that they could not distribute copies of death certificates for anyone who died after 1962 for genealogy purposes. I guess there will have to be another reason to get the certificate, but for genealogy, it is disallowed. Bummer....
