Re: Known By Two Names?
In Response To: Known By Two Names? ()

Hi Melvin,

Boy can I can relate. My grandmother was born Emma Pansy Green. At age two she was "adopted" and became Pansy Kirk. She had a falling out with her adopted family and around age 17 became Emma Pansy Green AND Pansy Kirk Green. She married my grandfather at 19 and became Pansy Green Johnson. She reunited with both her adopted family and her birth family and seemed to settle on Pansy Kirk Johnson, until she married my step grandfather and became Pansy Kirk Huff. Which is the name she used until she died, even though she would sometimes tell you her first name was Emma. On top of all this, she lists two different birth places and two birth dates!

Luckily her brother and sister and birth relatives are alive and have been a big help in untangling this.

It may be that in your situation, your relative was adopted or fostered out.

Good Luck!

Lee
