Re: Death Certificate Question
In Response To: Re: Death Certificate Question ()

Hi Sheila,

Don't give up just yet :) Even though he wasn't in the military he probably was of the age to register for the draft for WWI and possibly WWII. Get the WWI draft card microfilm for Lancaster County, SC and see if he's there. The card will probably list Lula as his wife, but they sometimes list parents; I found one like that for a relative. Shep/Ship might also have a WWI draft card. WWII is more difficult. The registration was in 1942, so if he was the right age, he'd be registered. The original cards for South Carolina are held at the NARA Regional Office in Atlanta, GA and are alphabetical by state. If you can't get to Atlanta, you can call them and ask them to look up Will and Shep. I think they charge $10.00 per search. While I can't guarantee his parents will be listed, they might be.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, Good Luck!

Lee
