Hi Tim, You brought up a good point about grandpa Silas' missing finger, on the 1910 census it is hard to make out his occupation (I thought it said farmer) but now in looking at it again it looks like it says fireman or miner and then next to it it says something engine, so it looks like he ran some type of machinery, also I don't know if this has anything to do with how he got a mining job but I remember my mother once described him as very light with curly black hair. Ya see what you did to me, now I have to find out more about how he lost his finger and his job in the coal mining community, as if genealogy wasn't hard enough "LOL". Vickie
