I am seeking information on coal mining and miners of African descent in the United States (and Canada) from the 1800s to around 1930. I am doing extensive research on this topic, and have uncovered evidence of coal miners in over a dozen states from coast to coast. Their places of birth are wide ranging with the highest representation being from the states of Alabama and Virginia. I am sure I am just touching the tip of the iceberg.
