Right, I understand what you are saying about the law and I've seen numerous examples of the law not being followed, but I was also saying that socially, in the 1800s antebellum period in NC, I've seen a lot of situations were a newly freed slave moved to and lived in an established community of free born african americans. To me, that is a sign that they were accepted. Others moved out of the state, but the ones that elected to stay moved into free born communities and that was my point.
