Re: How Many Generations Out of Slavery
In Response To: How Many Generations Out of Slavery ()
"He has been wondering for some time how many of us have know our slave ancestors. Is there any research on this or any stats. If so, how would I find it."
I don't know about stats, or particular resources, but here is my situation.
I was born in 1934, my father was born in 1894, his father, my grandfather, was born enslaved in 1852. My father's mother, my grandmother, was born enslaved in 1853, so both of my paternal grandparents were born enslaved and I am two(2) generations from enslaved paternal ancestors. Both paternal grandparents were deceased before I was born.
For my maternal lines the last ancestor born enslaved was a 2nd great grandfather. He was born in 1817. All others had been FPOC prior to 1810.
