Contraband Camp Marriage Mystery

This story touches on several forum areas, so I hope VKN or B.J. will do some reposting.

At an event in Grand Rapids, MI on Sunday I was approached by a woman who was intrigued by an obit she found on a minister who served in the Civil War. The link below for Find-A-Grave will take you to it & a death certificate. A quick synopsis of the relevant part: After being injured, he was reassigned to a "contraband" plantation, containing 600 newly freed persons and after getting permission ended up performing 420 marriages.

The person who shared this, Claudia Day, wonders if there is a list of those married. She is interested in it, and any other information related to the soldier and his association with the camp/plantation. Her email is claudiaday@gmail.com, and I will point her to this post.

This seems to have Freedmen's Bureau written all over it, however I currently don't have the time or expertise to investigate.
