Re: Found another African ancestor

Wow, didn't know a post I wrote 3 years ago would get so many responses. And Louisiana DOES have EXCELLENT records. I have to reiterate that point. Thanks to Gwendlynn Hall's Afro-Louisiana database, The Archival work of Keith Fontenot in Opelousas, The Colonial Archives of LSU in Baton Rouge and the Ecclestrial Records of all the Catholic Churches in South Louisiana and New Orleans, fellow Creole researchers and a little bit luck, I have been able to make LOTs of progress in learning more about my past as well as others. I managed to discover the identity of my 6th great-grandmother, a Fulbe woman named Zoė, born in the 1750s in the Senegambia region. There are LOTS of Louisiana Creole researchers with documented African ancestors. Louisiana is sort of the undiscovered country when it comes to History.
