Dear Afrigeneas Family:

I am launching a community research project to reconstruct the history of Maxville, OR, the small railroad logging community that was hoem to about 40 African American families between the 1920s and 1950s. Maxville was a "company town" and all of the loggers were brought to the town to work in the sawmill and woods. Thanks to the Census Records, I've been able to identify the families, their occupations, when & where they were born, and when & where they died.

Maxville is a ghost town today, but it tells a very interesting story about (1) The Great Migration to and Pacific Northwest, (2) the logging industry, (2) labor and logging technology, (3) labor relations, (4) social organization, (5) faith, (6) race, (7) culture, and much more.

I am designing my research project but, being a strong believer that nothing (or little) is sui generis, I was wondering if any AfriGeneas members might point my nose in the direction of a good historical community research guide?
