CORBIN Family VA Caroline Cnty

Good Morning,

Diane Ballman is a volunteer at the Central Rappahanock Heritage Center in Fredericksburg, VA.
She recently located a Caroline County Chancery Suit that contained a lot of family history information for many enslaved individuals. Many of the names are listed in her email below.

If any of these names are of interest to you, please contact Diane via email at dball1104@aol.com.

Thanks,
Marion

Hi Marion!

Do you know anyone who might be researching the Corbin family, Dodson family or Holmes family in Caroline? I archived a Caroline County Chancery Suit the other day and it was a really good one. George Corbin died and they were trying to determine who his relatives were. He had a full blooded brother, Dallas (aka Henry) Corbin. They had several half brothers and sisters. Their father was Dennis Corbin and he was a former slave of Cornelius Campbell at Belmont. Dennis married Silva Davidson before he married Nancy Dodson. That was before the Civil War. According to the court records Dennis fled during the Civil War with his wife (Nancy Dodson) and children to Washington, DC. One of the interesting things is the depositions of several former slaves stating that they were young boys and that their parents disguised them and girls by making them wear dresses in their escape to Washington. Dennis was shot and killed in Washington in 1865. There are lots of names in this court record. Depositions from former slaves from Egypt and Belmont. One of the Corbin brothers lived in Labadieville, Louisiana. There are letters in the court records that were written between the Corbin brothers. Would love to find someone related to this because I know it is someones family history. Names that are mentioned:
