I had browsed the chat room here in Afrigenses
People are talking about finding their ancestors
listed in the plantation's books, files etc.
Me being from the North always taught in school
the owners gave the slaves their surname.

After a long research i find that fact is NOT true.

Sometime time ago i found info. regarding the insurance companies were insuring the workers who had a skill. The list with the slaves and
given names never the slave owner.

If anyone has info for me to track my ancestors. Elliott
