Re: Finding Family in the 1940 Census .... Problem
In Response To: Finding Family in the 1940 Census .... Problems??? ()
As someone who is indexing..I have to tell you, trying to decipher this handwriting is a eye strain and could be a new electronic game. Some of these census takers write the m-n-i-u-r-e-o-a-t-f-s-l the exact same way on so many names that you have to sit back rewrite it, get up from the computer walk away and try to figure out what are they writing here. It is just rediculous. And if they could write any tinier, I think they would. I have a new respect for the indexers from the past. I suggest some of you sign up and try to do some of the states left. I am close to 10,00 names since I started in April. Can't do more than 4 or 5 batches a day. Eyes get crossed. I have found a couple of surnames from my family tree in SC, but don't know if they could be cousins as yet. My goal is to try to help completely index this state. I have no idea how close it is to being completely indexed. Messages In This Thread
